About Ayurveda

What is Ayurveda?

Literally ‘life’ (ayur) ‘knowledge’ (veda), Ayurveda has been used by people of all ages and body types, with different health histories and needs, for centuries.

Ayurveda is built on a philosophy of bio-individuality — the belief that each person is unique in how they are built and how they operate. Crucially, Ayurveda prioritises the mind/body connection, understanding that shifts in belief patterns creates meaningful and sustainable change in the behaviours that impact physical health. Personal, seasonal and achievable, Ayurveda helps optimise your health, reduce your stress, increase your performance and unlock the potential of your own being.

My journey with Ayurveda

With Indian heritage, I grew up with the principles of Ayurveda in the family home, with knowledge about the healing properties of spices and food passed down by my mother and grandmother.

When my sister was diagnosed with cancer as a child, our mother supplemented traditional Western treatment with natural health approaches from Ayurveda and beyond. To make the healing experience as inclusive and supportive as possible, the whole family would follow the careful diet and take the extra supplements along with the patient. I experienced the benefits of these practices firsthand, and also watched my sister recover from heavy treatment much faster than anticipated

In my early twenties, I had a personal encounter with Ayurveda when I developed adult acne/welts on my face. Rather than taking the harsh chemical treatments prescribed by my GP, I looked for alternative solutions and found that Ayurvedic treatments addressed the root cause, as well as the surface symptoms — in a gentle, non-invasive and sustainable way. I haven’t looked back since.
